Title: Electrical Engineer

Location:  Audio Research, Maple Grove, MN (On-site)

Position Summary

Seeking a “hands on”  Electrical Engineer with a passion for high quality audio reproduction. Must be a self starter, have good people skills, willingness to learn and be exceptionally organized. Must be a team player. This engineer will perform design work, provide continuation support, and shepherd new products through safety testing and EMI testing. Will conduct testing of analog and digital circuits and products.

Position Responsibilities

Provide design and continuation support of analog and digital circuits as well as firmware. Need to have an understanding of fundamental analog devices and circuits, knowledge of linear power supplies, switching power supplies, triac circuits. Vacuum tube knowledge a plus!

Create schematic, PCB layouts and BOM’s using Altium.

Perform digital hardware design: Embedded controllers, DAC’s , displays, general digital logic design.

Needs to understand and be able to work with various digital communication protocols and standards: USB, RS232, I2S, SPDIF.

Ability to write firmware/software preferred.

Work with safety testing agencies on new products- IEC safety testing experience a plus.

Work with EMI testing agencies on new products. Develop EMI troubleshooting and pre-testing capabilities.

Familiarity with audio electronics and audio engineering preferred.

This is an on-site position in our factory in the Twin Cities.

Title: Service Technician

Location:  Audio Research, Maple Grove, MN (On-site)

Reports to:  Customer Service Manager and Lead Technician

Direct Reports: None

  1. Position Overview:

The Service Technician is a key member of our customer service team.  They will receive units from our customers to repair and restore them to proper working order.  The Service Technician will analyze, troubleshoot, and repair High-End tube and solid state electronic home audio equipment.  They will manage their work using a computer-based job ticketing system to track priorities, record issues, and monitor status.  Additionally, The Service Technician will collaborate with the Customer Service manager to respond to technical service requests from our dealers and customers around the world.

  1. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Utilize test equipment (oscilloscopes, multi-meters, etc.) to troubleshoot to the component level, diagnose, and repair high end home audio equipment to our quality standards.
  • Read and interpret design documentation (electrical schematics, bill-of-materials, component specification sheets, etc.) to troubleshoot and diagnose problems.
  • Prepare time estimates for service and repair of customer’s home audio equipment.
  • Test the repaired units to ensure audio equipment is performing within factory specifications.
  • Upgrade units with new/improved features per factory specifications.
  • Professionally communicate with dealers and customers via phone and email to provide technical support, answer questions, and provide status of repairs.
  • Perform other duties as requested or required.

III.        Qualifications

Education

2-year Associates degree or certification in Electronic Technology

Experience

3-5 years of experience troubleshooting to the component level and repairing the following: vacuum tube and/or solid-state audio electronics, digital and analog audio circuits, knowledge of high voltage equipment is preferred.

  1. Skills and Abilities
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, components specification sheets, and service manuals.
  • Ability to use oscilloscope, multi-meter, distortion analyzer, and other test equipment.
  • Solder through hole and surface mount components, with and without magnification.
  • Knowledge of how to handle electrostatic discharge
  • Proficient in the use of Windows computers and Microsoft office applications
  • A self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi task, prioritize, and complete work activities within the deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and written.
  • Proven ability to work in a collaborative, team environment.
  • This position requires some sitting, standing, walking, repetitive movement, and lifting (< 70 lbs.)

Title: Solder Assembler
Location: Audio Research, Maple Grove, MN (On-site)
Reports to: Production Lead

Audio Research is searching for a Production Solder Assembler to join our team.

This position will build and assemble PCB boards using hand soldering, surface mount and through hole assembly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Stuff and hand solder through hole electronic components on circuit boards from samples and/or schematic drawings.
• Inspect own work for quality before moving it to the next process.
• Notify Team Lead of errors on procedures, drawings, bills of material, sample boards and/or prints.
• Utilize electrical and manual tools such as soldering irons, de-soldering equipment, and solder removal tools.
• Able to perform electronic assembly operations such as wire termination, installation of wire harness, cable assemblies, relays, transformers, boards, sub assemblies and units.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
• Has a proficient understanding of PCB assembly processes, component installation sequence of through hole and SMT components.
• Proficient understanding of PCB assembly drawings and related documents, including polarity orientations.

Qualifications & Abilities:
• HS Diploma/GED is required
• Superior attention to detail and high-quality workmanship.
• IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 certification a plus.
• Has a proficient understanding of PCB assembly processes, component installation sequence of through hole and SMT components.
• Strong eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
• Proficient understanding of PCB assembly drawings and related documents, including polarity orientations.
• Superior attention to detail and high-quality workmanship.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to perform repetitive motion (rotating wrists, using small/large tools, etc.)

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or sit for long periods of time

• The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
